Buddhist Punk House of The Gods Rolling Stones Black Slash Back Tee
Buddhist Punk was officially launched in the spring/summer of 2000, although the idea for the name was born a couple of years before that when one of the founders described a rock and roll star friend as a real Buddhist Punk. It was a name just waiting to be used.
The Buddhist Punk look incorporates a strong graphic language the label recognises that people now live in a very visual world, where they are constantly bombarded with references, associations and sensations. Buddhist Punk takes all these disordered influences and melds them together to create its own vocabulary, which inspires its clothing range and which is expressed through cut, construction, treatment and artwork.
The label is run by Rupert Meaker, who comes from a family with a 100 year history of involvement with fine tailoring. He was behind the popular club Aura and also owns Savile Row tailors, Richard Anderson. But that heritage of fine British tailoring is married to a completely different heritage that of the island of Bali to produce something radically new. Its very much a case of the metropolis meeting the tropics: the designs may come out of London, but they are turned into reality by a team of Balinese tailors, seamstresses, machinists, printers and graphic artists, all working together to create a unique atelier in the jungle. Using simple technologies, garments are hand made, giving each piece and the range itself its own very characteristic personality.
Buddhist Punk now sells to 450 of the worlds leading fashion retailers, building a strong platform to develop the line.
Buddhist Punk aims to be the number one counter culture label and has many friends and supporters in the film and music industries, dressing young guns, rising stars and legends alike. Indeed, Buddhist Punk was asked back in 2002 to be one of three cutting-edge labels to provide clothes for an official Rolling Stones merchandise line for the legendary bands Forty Licks world tour. For 2005/06, Buddhist Punk and the Rolling Stones are working together again for the bands Bigger Bang world tour.
